Modular construction doesn’t have to be overwhelming. At UrbanBloc, we make the design, permitting, and construction processes easy. Our team brings a versatile set of skills and experience to the table, giving our clients peace of mind that we’re with you every step of the way. 

Most of our projects are California-based, though we can work with you to explore projects based in other regions. For California projects, we secure a building permit through the State of California's Commercial Modular program. Once we have a state permit in hand we build our containers in our factory and arrange to have them shipped to the site where a local builder will place and install the containers. 

Our design process is fast and efficient, often taking just a matter of weeks to secure a permit. For food units, we work with the local health department to secure health department approvals. Once our containers reach the site, installation by a general contractor is straightforward. 

The total time from start to finish varies by the project but is typically in the range of 4 - 6 months from the beginning of the design phase through installation.

PRECONSTRUCTION CONSULTING

  • Project Feasibility Studies — project ideation and feasibility based on client goals and objectives; options for site activation, revenue generation or meeting other strategic goals.

  • Site Evaluation — review of potential site attributes and shortcomings, identification of site requirements to support container infrastructure, brainstorming ideas, and overcoming barriers.

  • Estimating — rough pricing out for early-stage budgeting purposes.

  • Conceptual Drawings — high-level sketches to support planning and enable marketing of the site for strategic or leasing purposes.

DESIGN SERVICES

  • Conceptual Design — rough container layouts to align with your goals, provide optimal site circulation, support anticipated workflows, and embody your branding.

  • Design Development and Permit Documentation — architectural design, mechanical/electrical/plumbing layouts, and structural engineering including Title 24 (energy efficiency and environmental quality) calculations.

PERMITTING

  • State Permit Approval — submitting drawings to the state for state permit.

  • Health Department Review and Approval — submitting and facilitating drawings for Environmental Health Plan check and approval.

MANUFACTURING

  • Construction — full construction of your project in our factory.

  • Inspections — scheduling and securing state inspections.

  • Delivery — ensuring a smooth delivery to the site  and coordinate with the general contractor for  installation of the finished project on site.
